Opposition Fails To Support Amendment Bill

Government has failed to gain the two-thirds majority for a bill in the lower house aimed at amending the procedure for the appointment of persons to hold or act in the offices of Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The bill was defeated with 21 votes for, 18 against and no abstentions. It sought to amend the procedure by allowing selected persons to be appointed to act in the positions without the approval of the House of Representatives.
