Buccoo Village Council Facing Financial Constraints

The Buccoo Village Council is cash-strapped. The organisation, which is responsible for the hosting of the annual Buccoo Goat and Crab Race, held a Media Briefing on Wednesday where representatives noted the Easter event has been held for over 90 years.

However, President Keigon Denoon informed they are facing financial constraints. He informed the Council has requested sponsorship of approximately $180,000 from the Tobago House of Assembly but the Assembly has committed to $30,000.

When asked about loopholes which have been identified in the Council’s accounting records which may have resulted in financial constraints, Mr. Denoon said since assuming office one month ago he met with the treasurer. He also stressed the event is part-sponsored.

In 2022, the Buccoo Village Council made a decision to not host the event, stating the relaxation of COVID regulations was received at short notice. However, the Tobago House of Assembly in collaboration with the Goat Owners Association hosted A Taste of Buccoo on Easter Tuesday.
