CARICOM’s Secretary General, Dr. Carla Barnett, led a team which met with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense in the Western Hemisphere, Daniel Erikson.
The meeting was held at the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana. Discussions centered around regional security matters, climate change, and the Department of Defense’s engagement in the Caribbean.
Mr. Erikson was in Guyana from January 8th to 9th, 2024 on his first overseas visit for 2024. According to the US Embassy in Guyana, the visit underscores the ongoing significance the United States places on its defense and security partnerships.
The visit aims to reinforce US commitments to working closely with its allies to strengthen alliances and partnerships.
