CARICOM Stands In Solidarity With Haiti

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is standing in solidarity with the Government and people of Haiti.

CARICOM, via a statement, said it has noted with “deep concern reports of death, injuries and displacement in our sister Member State, Haiti, as a result of heavy rains and flooding over the past weekend, and the earthquake of June 6, 2023.”

CARICOM expressed sincere condolences to those who now grieve the loss of loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. The Caribbean Community said they extend their arm of friendship to the Government and people of Haiti at this very challenging time and assure them of the continued support and solidarity of Member States of the Region as they seek to recover from these disasters.

The 4.9-magnitude quake struck in the early hours of Tuesday in the city of Jérémie, killing at least three people.

Last weekend torrential rains and widespread flooding left at least 42 people dead, 11 missing, and some 19,000 homeless.
