CARIRI And SATT Speak To MSMEs

The Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) and the Supermarket Association of Trinidad and Tobago (SATT) hosted an information session targeting Micro Small and Medium sized businesses geared toward the process of getting their products on supermarket shelves.

The session covered regulatory requirements, the relationship between buyers and sellers, and what is required by supermarkets outside of regulatory concerns. Speaking on behalf of the Chemistry Food and Drugs Division, Food Inspector 2, Imtiaz Ali highlighted a number of issues that his department frequently encounters, including certification.

Delivering real world experience in navigating the various processes, Managing Director of B’s Homemade Ice Cream, Kathryn Bethel, encouraged organisations like SATT and CARIRI to continue having these types of sessions as a way to encourage businesses to grow.

The session, which was held at the Centre Pointe Mall Auditorium in Chaguanas, was attended by 200 MSMEs including agriculture, food and beverage, cosmetics, local artisans, and small scale manufacturers.
