Commonwealth Gold For Paul

Trinidad & Tobago’s first medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham came as Cycling phenom Nicholas Paul continued his dominance of track cycling with gold in the Men’s Keirin.

T&T’s marquee track sprinter didn’t lose a single race on his way to the top of the podium beginning his keirin title run with a win in the first round of Heat Two.

He followed that up with victory in the Second round of Heat Two. There were good signs as TTO had two of the six in the final with Paul joined by repechage Heat Four winner Kwesi Browne with Scottish veteran Jack Carlin also in the mix.

Paul who won two gold at the UCI Nation’s Cup including the keirin title in early July showed why he was the favourite. The flying 200 record holder attacked the front with two laps remaining and never looked back.

Carlin took silver and Malaysia’s Shah Sahrom bronze, and Browne finished sixth. Quincy Alexander advanced as far as repechage Heat Three.
