Local Government Minister Faris Al-Rawi is assuring that when implemented and collected, revenue from the Property Tax will be used by his Ministry to improve services in residential areas.
Speaking at a Media Conference on Thursday, Mr. Al-Rawi pointed out that while monies are given to the Ministry from Central Government, revenue must also be collected to ensure the quality of citizens’ lives are improved.
The Minister noted that Local Government gets very little money for repairing roadways and bridges.
Mr. Al Rawi says the Ministry will also soon start a survey exercise which has been approved by Cabinet, which will look at the condition of roadways that belong to the Ministry of Local Government. It will also study facilities it owns and maintains, including markets, vacant lots and play parks.
