Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh is defending the construction of the Central Block of the Port of Spain General Hospital, saying it is critical for the development of Port of Spain.
Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, Minister Deyalsingh criticised the Opposition for not prioritising the building during its tenure. Minister Deyalsingh said the old building could have led to a potential disaster, noting that it was ignored by the then Government in power.
Package One of the 13-storey Central Block, which included the super structure, was officially completed on Monday, with Package 2 to 6, which involves flooring, electrical, and cladding, to begin soon.
