High Number Of Gender Based Violence Cases In Central And Eastern Trinidad, Scarborough

Central and Eastern areas in Trinidad and Scarborough in Tobago have been singled out as having high numbers of reported cases of Gender Based Violence.

That’s according to Acting Director of the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies at The UWI, St. Augustine, Dr. Godfrey St. Bernard.

Dr. St Bernard was among a panel hosted by the institute on Friday on Counteracting the Scourge of Violence Against Women in Caribbean Societies.

Dr. St Bernard said while there is need for updated information, he attributes the increase in gun violence to the easy access to illegal firearms.
