Increase In Motor Vehicle Larceny

There was an increase in the number of larceny of motor vehicles in the Port of Spain Division, from the period January 22nd to present, when compared to 2021.

However, Operational Head of the Stolen Vehicle Unit at the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Inspector Lloyd Lazarus, noted a decrease in robbery of motor vehicles.

He explained that larceny of motor vehicles occurs when a car is left unattended and stolen, while robbery involves using bodily harm to remove someone from their vehicle before it is stolen.

Inspector Lazarus attributed the decrease in robbery of motor vehicles to crime fighting initiatives, and the strategic deployment of patrols within the Division.
