MOH Expects Increase In COVID-19 Cases

Principal Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards, expects an increase in COVID-19 cases within the next week.

Speaking during Monday’s COVID-19 Media Conference, Dr. Abdool-Richards said the predicted spike in cases is related to increased movement during the Christmas Season.

In the interim, Dr. Abdool-Richards says the Ministry is allocating resources to manage the expected increase. But she said the human resources capacity continues to be limited.

Dr. Abdool-Richards encouraged people with symptoms to present to the hospital to seek medical attention early.

She says late detection of the virus can result in an increased demand on the healthcare facilities.
