Parliament Approves Nomination Of Five Members To The Police Service Commission

The five nominees selected by President Paula-Mae Weekes for the Police Service Commission were approved in the House of Representatives.

Twenty one members voted for, 19 voted against, and there were no abstentions.

Criminologist Ian Kevin Ramdhanie, Management Consultant Maxine Attong, Chartered Accountant Maxine King, Attorney Rajiv Persad, and retired High Court Judge Judith Jones will be sworn as PolSC members.

Before the vote, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said he was grateful that the five nominees agreed to take up the responsibility to ensure that there is a functioning PolSC. But Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the process should have been paused until the air is cleared on what she described as the “fiasco” in the PolSC.
