Schools In Session – Teachers Return To Work

It was school as usual and the first day back for many of the nation’s students as parents and guardians turned up at schools around the country with their children in tow.

This follows Monday’s high teacher absenteeism as teachers, guided by the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA), stayed away from work to highlight its dissatisfaction with the CPO’s offer of a 4% salary increase. It was referred to as a ‘Day of Rest and Reflection.’

Scores of parents and guardians were spotted taking their children to school at both the Newtown Boys’ and Girls’ RC schools on Tuesday.

School operations have also returned to normal in Tobago. TTT News visited various schools in the Scarborough area where students were seen in their numbers. Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association Tobago Officer Bradon Roberts informed that teachers have returned to work.

Commenting on Monday’s action, THA Secretary for Education, Research and Technology, Zoresha Hackett, said the teachers demonstrated their democratic rights based on the call by TTUTA. She added the Division had to do their part to ensure the students were facilitated in a safe learning environment.
