Sport Hall of Famer Marjorie John’s Funeral Set For Friday

Sport Hall of Famer, the legendary Marjorie John, will be laid to rest on Friday after a celebration of her life and legacy at the All Saints Church in Newtown from 10am.

Ms. John passed on Saturday at the age of 89 and has been remembered as a pioneer, multi-sport legend and true servant of athletic endeavour on these shores.

During a distinguished career, the former police sergeant represented Trinidad and Tobago in netball, cycling, cricket, tennis, table tennis, basketball, and rifle shooting.

She was a member of the team that represented T&T at the inaugural Netball World Cup in 1963.

In 1987, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame and was named a Lifetime Achievement awardee at the Ministry of Sport’s Spirit of Sport Awards in 2013.

Tributes continue to be paid to Ms. John’s contribution to the sporting landscape, not just as an athlete and teammate but as a valuable source of inspiration and mentorship to generations that followed.
