Stakeholders Begin Training On Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Act, 2011 And Amendment Acts

Training has begun for key stakeholders of the Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Act, 2011 or the “AJIPA” and its six amendment Acts.

The Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs reminds that the AJIPA seeks to abolish Preliminary Inquiries to implement a more efficient pre-trial mechanism.

The sensitisation/training has begun in collaboration with the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago in anticipation of the imminent proclamation of the AJIPA.

This first session was held at the Police Academy Gymnasium on December 4th, 2023 and targeted members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

Additional sessions will take place at the Waterfront Judicial Centre, Tower D, with officers of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Legal Aid and Advisory Authority, and other members of the legal fraternity.

Officers of the TTPS were introduced to the Judiciary’s mandatory use of e-filing and web forms relative to criminal matters via a new web form portal.
