Supermarkets Move To Remove VAT On Food Items Today

President of the Supermarket Association, Rajiv Diptee, says hundreds of grocery stores across the country are still moving to implement the removal of Value Added Tax on food items.

Finance Minister, Colm Imbert, announced that VAT would be removed from several basic food items during his Budget presentation on October 4th.

Mr. Diptee adds that the Association stores are ready at the cash register to ensure that consumers will not pay any VAT on these items.

Among the items to be zero-rated are canned beans, tuna, oil, and ketchup.
