For the first time, Tobago would host its Carnival in October.
While this year, a “Taste of Carnival” was held in Trinidad included various elements of the festival, Tobago hosted educational activities. This, as the Tobago House of Assembly announced plans to host a separate Carnival.
During the THA’s Monday Mandate Briefing, Secretary for Tourism, Transportation, Culture and Antiquities Tashia Grace-Burris made the announcement. Chief Secretary Farley Augustine later informed that no budget has been determined for the weekend-long Carnival festivities. He noted, however, that members of the Carnival Committee would be soon announced along with the budget.
This announcement has been met with approval by many Tobagonians who have been clamouring for a separate Tobago Carnival for many years.
