Trade Unions March Against 4% Wage Offer

Hundreds of members of the Trade Union Movement showed their dissatisfaction on Friday as they reject the Government’s 4% offer to public sector workers, to show solidarity with Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) workers, and several other unresolved issues.

Under the watchful eyes of the police, the three overarching labour unions, the National Trade Union Centre, the Joint Trade Union Movement, and the Federation of Independent Trade Unions led their members through the streets of Port of Spain.

President of the Public Services Association, Leroy Baptiste, said what the Government is proposing as a settlement will also deprive retirees from getting an increase.

President of the National Trade Union Centre, James Lambert, and General Secretary of the Joint Trade Union Movement, Michael Annisette, echoed similar sentiments calling on members not to get weary.

The President of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union, Ancel Roget, hinted that this is just the start of something bigger by the labour movement, until they get the desired results.
