T&T, Chile Finalise Trade Negotiations

Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon is confident T&T and Chile can finalise trade negotiations soon.

At the opening of the Fifth Round of Negotiations between both countries, the Minister noted that T&T and Chile have shared diplomatic ties since 1964, which was strengthened in 2005 with Chile establishing an Embassy in Port of Spain.

She said the Partial Trade Scope Agreement, which is in the fifth and final round, will continue to expand bilateral relations and enhance trade.

Chief Negotiator at Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sebastián Gómez, said they are optimistic on concluding negotiations this week, noting that there has been a continued upward trend of trade between both countries.

T&T’s delegation will be led by Colin Connelly, resuming his role as Chief Negotiator, and supported by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Randall Karim, along with technical experts from various Ministries and Government Agencies.
