Two Arrested For Scrap Iron Theft At MOWT Compound

Two men have been arrested in connection with the discovery of stolen materials belonging to the Ministry of Works and Transport.

According to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, an employee of the Ministry reported to the police that he last saw nine iron beams, 60 electrical steel pipes, two excavator buckets, one 18-inch one-way valve pipe, and six pieces of overhanging beams on the secured compound of the Ministry in Caroni at around 3pm on July 29th, 2022.

He alleges he discovered the materials missing at around round 6:30pm on August 2nd.

A report was made to the police and following investigations, officers proceeded to a scrap iron business in the Cunupia district, where they found the stolen materials.

The owner of the business, a 33 year old of Chaguanas and a 36 year old of Sangre Grande, were arrested in connection with the finds.
