The University of Trinidad and Tobago Student Guild has donated $500,000 towards the University’s Financial Aid Fund.
In a Cheque Handover Ceremony on Wednesday, Executive Guild President, Alex Hewitt, said after looking at allocations for financial aid this year, the Guild decided that it was necessary to donate to the fund as many students are unable to pay for their tuition due to the many challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
UTT President, Professor Prakash Persad, said to date, the University is still registered as a not-for-profit company but they are hoping to have this changed in the future so that they can receive donations for initiatives like the Fund.
