Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Trinidad and Tobago, Álvaro Sánchez Cordero, extended special thanks to the Government and citizens of Trinidad and Tobago for the support this country has shown to Venezuelan migrants, especially over the last few years while his country has been undergoing its challenges. In addition to this, the Ambassador further echoed his Government’s gratitude for Trinidad and Tobago’s principled position regarding the defence of Venezuela’s sovereignty and right to self-governance.
This was stated during a meeting with Planning and Development Minister Pennelope Beckles and other Executives of the Ministry of Planning and Development on July 6. The Ambassador’s visit also focused on collaborating on innovative ways to enhance the existing areas of cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela such as energy, fishing, language, agriculture and education.
Minister Beckles emphasized the historical connections Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago share, from the people to the names of towns and villages while underlining that the two nations’ relationship has transcended diplomatic and government relations to familial and ancestral connections for many people.
Through this discussion, the Planning Minister and the Ambassador sought to explore ways to further deepen ties through other sectors, namely cuisine, music, sports, history, environment and other cultural aspects of each country. The idea of a major festival or cultural exposition between the two nations was well received and something both parties saw as a potential venture that would not only bring further awareness to the rich history shared, but could also yield new innovations in food, music and festival marketing that can be a possible income generator at the community and national levels.
