Walker Withdraws From FINA World Swimming Championships After Testing Positive For COVID-19

Swimmer Ornella Walker has withdrawn from the National Team after she tested Positive for COVID-19.

According to a release from the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago, Walker was part of the contingent travelling to Abu Dhabi to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the 15th FINA World Swimming Championship from December 6th to 21st, 2021. She is the only athlete to withdraw from the Championship due to the virus as the team prepares to travel amidst the pandemic.

The Castara-based swimmer was slated to compete in the Women’s Individual Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Individual Medley events.

The team now comprises Dylan Carter, Cherelle Thompson, and Nikoli Blackman with Stephen Mendoza and Dexter Browne as coaches. They are scheduled to leave for Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
