West Indies Improve But India Hold Edge On Day 1 Of Second Test At The Oval

A spirited West Indian team stood tall on the second session of play after the Indian openers flourished on an even Queen’s Park Oval track.

Yashavi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma amassed 139 for the first wicket, before Jomel Warrican made the first incision, Sharma bowled for 80.

The Caribbean men fought back in the afternoon session, bringing India to 182 for 4 at the tea interval. India seemed to enjoy the afternoon heat in the city as Ravendra Jadeja and Virat Kholi, playing in his 500th match for India, piled on 106 for the fifth wicket.

Shannon Gabriel who came into the squad had 1 for 50 from 12 overs while Kemar Roach, Jomel Warrican, and Jason Holder each took one wicket.

At stumps on Day One, India are poised at 288 for 4 with Jadeja on 36 and Kholi well set on 87.

Play resumes on Friday morning at 10am.
